what have you learnt the hard way, but only car related things.
mine
-i learnt about tightness and torque setting of bolts after using a really long bar to tighten my sump nut and chewing all the threads up
-not to overtighten locking wheel nuts, got stuck in and had to have em smashed out
-when undoing battery terminals don't let go of spanner letting it fall between the connections and shorting everything out

Dont lower your car too much - you will rip your exhaust off.
always hav a pot to put all your screws in when taking stuff apart - i have lost many, my car rattles.
dont bounce your car off the limiter - you will blow a something up

Don't leave it sat outside on the drive for 2 years without moving it, it'll rust and depress you, especially when your best mate's a mechanic and the only thing that needs doing are the brakes

Dont put metal valve caps on without putting grease inside them first - winter comes and they corrode onto the valve so cant check tyre pressures on my rear wheels

Don't give a bodyshop a penny unless they have actually done the job you wanted them to do.
