So offers been accepted and blah blah
Went up there today ... making notes of what i would like to do and i realise...
Im going to end up stripping the entire house as every room is wallpapered and cant really be painted over
Anyone have an idea of how long somthing like that would take?
Its a 3 bed terraced, quite big...
Thanks

Are you gonna have moved all your stuff in and then strip it?by yourself?
And are you gonna use a heated wallpaper stripper?

Hire a steam wallpaper stripper, they're about 50quid a day and get it done in less than a weekened

depends on condition of walls, layers of paper etc, maybe just pull off easy, may need steaming/scrapping off, walls may needs skimming or filling and sanding

Shouldnt take more than a few weekends depending on how much time you do it for each day and the condition of the paper/walls etc

House is 100 years old, majority of the rooms have been recently papered (last 2 years) see what you mean about skimming, one of the walls downstairs needs skimming which im hoping Richie can do
Would imagine they need steaming and scraping as well
So if i booked a week off work du think that would be enough?
Or would it be a case of, book the week and see how i go?

Wouldnt mind converting it as it wont be that hard.... not into a proper bedroom just making it a room
the loft ... not the hatch

also make sure you remove it carefully, dont pull the wall paper, it has been known for the plaster to stick to the wall paper...... then it gets expencive

i'd make a start on one room on a weekend/evening and see how long it takes then work it out from that

are the joists strong enough to do this or are they made of balsa wood like many modern homes.

the loft hatch in most house is just 18mm plywood, usually a metre square, in winter you loose so much heat thru it as it rises
saves money insulating it
depends if the joists are insulated or the rafters tho
my top tip

just staple some fibreglass insulation stuff on the back of it
costs pennies to do
or can get thin/stiff stuff but costs more

stipping wall paper doesnt take too long if you use a steamer, just a boring job!
And converting a loft will be more than you think, by the time you've filed plans, complied with building regs, etc.

Am gunna need a skip i want the house to be empty, bar the kitchen units and bathroom suite
It has one of those old cream electirc fires mounted in the fireplace so am going to see if i can rip it out and then open the fireplaces back up and have them open but boxed off and put some candles or somthing in the breasts, if that makes sense
