Right car is running a bit wierdly wanna sort it before it gets mega bad...
Basically car idles fine on start up, no eml on....accelrating it feels a tad lumpy at part throttle not much though, then letting the revs drop down say from 3k it goes very jerkly sometimes it will slow down as in engine brakeing and other time it will just role along at 3k or drop very slowly...
it also revs its self sometimes like when i was just pulling up at home it held at 3k and then went upto 4 so a dabbed the throttle and it dropped back down too 800....
Help Please
UPDATE: Took off the inlet hose today located the ICV, where the hole is going down into seems quite black also when it revs up to 2k on its own then you block the hole it will drop back down and then idle at 800 dunno if this is what it should do but it seems an ICV probelm to me now..

The ICV is a little motor that physically opens & closes the butterfly in the throttle at Idle, it most definatley sounds like an ICV fault to me. If the ICV is fooked you normally encounder problems when going on/off gass - gives you the kagaroos sometimes when you come off and revs will start pulsating of their own accord at idle.

It doesnt.
Thats the problem with these fuckin cars. If you ICV plays up, its like finding out you have cancer (probably), just one problem after another and another and another.....

ICV has absolutely fuck all to do with the throttle butterfly... it opens/closes a secondary airway allowing a flow of air to BYPASS the throttle butterfly... it forms part of the fuel injection equivalent of a choke. If you've had breather problems, knackered headgasket or been ragging the thing then the icv will get clogged with oil/general engine crap

Right been up to vauxhall they said it could be Throttle position sensor, Idle control valve...
Also what is this, it goes in the inlet pipe between the airbox and dblias its been sort of bodged in as in a hole cut and wedged through...
Can see it fitted to the engine middle left hand side of the picture on the inlet pipe..

does it run lumpy without it being there though ? ive like just blown it quite hard when i took it out and it seemed ok for about 5 mins then it went back to normal ? thinking of spraying it with carb cleaner ?

hmm so you can disconnect it rather than it being there to fuk things up and take dodgy readings ? does that sensor party control the air fuel mixture...

right i shall disconnect that today and see if it does anything if it doesnt then thats obviously not to blame and its most likely the TPS or ICV

Have you seen an ICV on the X12XE engine? it is how I describe, thats why its also reffered to as an idle stepper motor.

Right could the MAF sensor cause this, i unplugged it earlier and cleaned the contacts and plugged it back in, seemed to run quite alot better.... Can the TPS be cleaned with carb cleaner etc ???

Could be the MAF sensor, I disconnected it on Rachels car to see how the car would run without it and it started idling rough.

Yeah im edgeing towards that now aswell because its an electrical component and the icv is moer mechanical, i could be sitting there for 2 minutes idling perfect then suddenly it would go up to 1.2k revs and hold which seems more of an electrical fault than mechanical to me..

I now have the exact same prob mate egingine revs at what it wants to when its standing every now and again, i have just has a new EGR valve fitted too. The car is not running at full power eitha
I got it plugged into computer and it came up with
Fault code: P1640 Which was quad driveer module
So after i was told that i made him put it into simple ters and he said ECU was possibly fooked. I have just got a second hand one from the scrappers same code etc. Am hopin to put it in tomorrow and it will get diag tested again on friday possibly. So i will let you know how mine goes.
Any one know how to put a new ECU in? anything special have to be disconnected etc?

argh lol.... been throught the same rubbish
replaced ICV, AMM, EGR, AIR FILTER, Cleaned out the throttle body..... cleared a few other small annoying factors but still had the lumpy/lack of power feeling
After reading this post i replaced the TPS today... problem solved... even found £20 coming out the shop
