I am running debain with webmin.
I restarted mysql server the other day but stupid removed the mysql database.
Now I have tried to reinstall mysql and it appears to be ok, but it still will not allow me to start mysql.
I am using the following command
/etc/init.d/mysql start|stop|restart.
Any ideas and commands i can run to reinstall the internal mysql database.

You may find this of some use:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-status-variables.html
Especially this peice of information :
Uptime
The number of seconds the server has been up.
Bare in mind I have no idea when it comes to linux never mind sql
