Howdy,
I'm finally building my new PC and have a few questions.
Firstly, I have a DVD rom, a DVD RW and a floppy. The cable for the dvd's is marked master/slave/motherboard, so shall I just set each drive to cable select?
Secondly, The USB ports on the front have cables to connect to the motherboard. On the end of each are 2 plugs. One has 2 little female things (not pins, holes) and one has one little hole. Whereas the motherboard has about 9 little pins HELP
I may be able to go into more detail about the usb thing later but have to get to work

its difficult to help Claire without the name and brand of your Motherboard, then we can ascertain where your USB connectors can hook up to the jack points on the board. also, why do you have a DVD rom as well as a DVD RW? the RW will be able to read normal DVD's too... unless you plan to copy CD's on the fly

You can either use cable select and plug them in master and slave, or you can override that and set them to master and slave using the jumpers.
With regards to the USB 'thing', your motherboard manual should tell you where to plug extra external USB ports into.
I had the same problem with the USB ports as I built my PC last night. The motherboard guide was a godsend....

I have two drives so I can copy cd's more easily (no im not into dodgy cd's etc, its mainly because i tend to chuck cd's about in the car so alwayts only use copys rather than the origionals...)
The motherboard is a Gigabyte K8 Triton.
The cable from the case is marked:
USB +
USB -
VCC1
GRND
And the socket pins on the motherboard are marked (in book) as:
Pin layout is;
and key is;
1) Power
2) Power
3) USB DX-
4) USB Dy-
5) USB DX+
6) USB Dy+
7) GND
8) GND
9) NO PIN
10) NC

so if I use DX+ I also have to use DX-?
Do I then have to use Dy on the other usb socket?
Does it matter which I use?
Thanks for the reply!

For one usb port match up the dx's, for a seperate usb port use the dy's.
