Hi guys im pretty new here so i wonder if i could get some advice

i have just bought my first car a corsa (93) 1.4 Ls its a pretty nice car as i only paid £600 for it i would say its pretty mint, a few things i would like help with if possible. Firstly the pait is basically horrible, its some faded crappy purple colour i dont really mind the colour but its really dull and not at all shiny, rather than get a respray that could cost more that the cars worth i might try to polish it up or something. I have tried using T-cut but it didnt give the results on the back of the bottle. Is there a better polish or way of getting the colour back could a new coat of clear laqer do it (please no flaming as i am clueless when it comes to external painting)?

The second thing is would it be possible to fit a badgeless grille on the car as its pre facelift version so the grille is attatched to the bumper.....would this mean chopping up the front bumper?

Any help is much appreciated

try getting some polish/wax rather than t-cut - get down to halfords or your local car shop and have a look at different waxes (auto glym etc)

also i think you would need to cut the original grille off the bumper

and lastly...you can delete your other thread - its one of the edit options

yeah its generally used for removing light scratches, matching paintwork (eg if one panel doesnt match the rest the of the car), etc

Wax/polish is better for getting a good shine

give it a good shampoo and polish and it will look

Cheers mate i will get down to halfords tomorrow as its payday needed to go down there anyway to get some more air ducting for my air filter

i will let people know how it goes with some pictures of it

oh and do you think its a good idea to get one of those electric buffer things to polish it up with or are they just a waste of cash

Cheers

You would be best to consider getting it machine polished that will bring back the shine you can get that done at local body shop or car valetar and not to pricie. and your better just to leave the bumper. or buy face lift bumpers

The electric buffers are good but i find that using some elbow grease to buff it up by hand gives gr8 results too - my corsa (<<<<<< in my avatar) is always hand polished

And a nice shiny car it is too that nearside wing is like a mirror

LingardGSI I may get that done, would it be overly expensive? and also would the facelift bumpers fit srait onto the car or would they need modifying slightly

Cheers

cheers mate - old pic but still looks that shiny after a few hours cleaning - has some new bits n bobs now tho

facelift bumpers should fit str8 on - just make sure you get a grille 4 it too as the old one will still be attached to the old bumper - not sure on bodyshop prices mate

ur grille can be cut out with a stanley knife and sum warm temperatures-its so soft a plastic. Then all u need is buy one (ebay is cheap or try visionstyling, they match prices)

...failing that u cud mesh but from experience id say its wank!

For the paint work i would try the meguires 3 stage process.

1: meguires stage one paint cleaner
2: meguies stage two crystal polish
3: meguies stage three carnuba Wax

Hopefully this should make the paint nice and shiney as this is the best stuff on the market imo.

if the paint has faded u will be best using a buffing compound g3 ect and buffer then polish/ wax after u can buy buffing pads to go on ur drill for a couple of quid polish on its own wont really help if its faded its more just to clean it and give it a little shine u want to bring the colour back through

this is the method i use when dealing with faded red cars ive bought to sell only takes about an hour and u will be suprised how well it works

this guy is spot on, at first u wonder if the meguires stuff is havin an effect then you take a step back and you see how good it is, just make sure you give it a good buiff up after each step, i swear by it tho, its the only thing thats keeps flame red intact!!! start off using all three steps then as time goes by u will only need to use the polish n wax!
