erm theres not really packages as such mate. buy the Jl Audio sub with a box, then get a decent amp. depending on budget but a jbl gto amp or alpine will be fine.
the sub is top quality btw ( i have one and its fuckin spot on )

Wouldn't bother with any of those mate, and build your own box to the correct spec of the sub, will sound much better and is dead easy.

I have a mutant twin 10 inch 800 watt sub enclosure that cost me £75 delivered and a spl amp which was around £50
Nothing fantastic but it gets the job done untill i can afford something better and get the interferance sorted

ive seen a mutant 12" sub + box, wiring kit and mutant 2 channel amp for £79 which sounded good. Or whether it would be better to spend a bit more on something like the sony stuff which has a higher RMS rating

I know mate, but there is basic but good and just plain crap. Had this disscussion many times with the missus bout a head unit she wanted a goodmans from argos, in the end i chose a clarion for a little bit more but miles better in quality.
Infinity do some some good stuff for what your after. Why dont you look at a 4 or 5ch amp that will run a sub and front components.

Dude, it would sound good but i do think the wiring should be better than the kit you get. A run of 4awg to a dizzy block then split to 8awg, would allow for expansion.

save up a bit more buy that sub and get a jbl 1201.1 amp its 1124wrms all day long... for around £200.. worth every penny ive got mine fitted and only running it at 650-700 wrms and back window flexs to fuck.... loads of juice left in it so now change of blowing amp or sub .... even thought you can hammer both if you wanted not advized thought cos you back window would probly fall out.
