For some reason my heaters make my car colder

At first I just thought that the car was taking its time to warm up but even after a fairly long journey it still isn't warm.

Now I'm thinking its a problem with my thermostat? Does that sound about right?

Fairly easy to change?

Also I've fitted a CD player but there is no power to it Checked fuses etc, any ideas on this?

Yes thermostat. Mine did the same.

it would overheat in traffic, as soon as i drivied it, it went right down, right under 90oC. So I changed the thermostat and it runs at 90oC and the heater are fookin HOT!

I hear there quite hard to change on the c14se lumps, have to take the cambelt to get to the waterpump or somthin...

if the thermostat fails to open correctly then water from the engine wont go through the radiator. this could cause heaters to be cold.

also check for air locks in the heater matrix.

Ho do I check for air locks?

Am I right in thinking that to test a thermostat you put it into boiling water to see if it opens up properly?

Going to try topping up the coolant see if that helps. If there is too much water in there could this cause a problem? I forgot that just before I MOT'd it I noticed the water level was low so I topped it up with water.

Just fill it up to the line with the engine cold, if you overfill it, it will spit out what it doesnt want anyway so its not too much of a problem.

It's a closed pressureised system, it will spit out what it doesn't want at the expense of blowing a hose off or worse, and dump the rest of the coolant out too

try this for the stereo. it maybe that the yellow wire has been cut, which would stop it turning on....

[edit] the top diagram is what it was before and the bottom diagram is what it needs to be by the way !!!! i forgot to put that on the pic !!!

to get rid of airlocks just get the car up to temp and run it with the cap off the coolant bottle. it will bubble over but dont worry, let it do this for 30 seconds or so. (put heaters on full inside the car during this)

allow it to cool down and top-up with coolant when cold
