is this spec good would you say?
It is a 1.4 SR block with a port polished 1.2 head, Twin Weber 40 carburetors, KP (King Piston) race pistons, ARP rod bolts, piper cam (not sure of the exact type, the previous owner said it was milder than the 300 degree cam that used to be in there) and an adjustable vernier pulley.
The head gasket went whilst being driven by the previous owner, he subsequently had it repaired, head skimmed, and new head bolts. While it was off the road he also had the carbs rebuilt, the milder cam fitted, and had the carbs tuned on a rolling road. I have the printout for this that shows max power: 115BHP @ 6460 Rpm and max torque: 109 lbft @ 4012 Rpm.

Only 8v is not a disadvatage.
Probably a better thing in an smaller car.
Find a standard one, keep it standard and look after it.

bad points = the four letters after vauxhall  Old cars, likely to have high miles, rust, don't hold much value
good points = cheap, common parts, don't matter if you crash it, lightweight, iconic 80's hothatch

GTE - early
GSi - Facelift.
GSI - slightly different management.
Both run 100bhp.

GSi and GTE had fuel injection, as for the finding a minter GSi than GTE, good luck, the GTE and pre facelift model Novas were actually made out of a higher grade steel and don't rot as easily.
I personally prefer the GSi but the GTE is actually easier to find in better condition.
Unless your going to restore the car Novas are'nt really worth owning now, most have holes in, most are on there last legs (literally) and you can generally pick up Corsa GSi's for the same kind of price, but if your a enthusiast then buy one, much more fun than the Corsa but buy a welder to go with it
