I've got the '99 X16XE, wondering if im doing any damage to the engine running a 4-1 manifold - decat - straight thru centre section?
Car runs fine, just a tad loud

Nope it wont do any damage, u may get a few bangs and pops tho

nope wont't cause any harm whatsoever. Your engine must be so loud! Bet ya it sound awasome, can you tell me what it sounds like, is it just a deep droning tone, or is it a raspy higher pitch roar (like a N/A rally car engine)?

Yup its loud!!
Its raspy from 2k-3.5k, then its REALLY deep roar, really grunty if u get me. Never heard a N/A rally car on full i chat, i dont think. It pops on engine braking too!

Sounds well. When i said a N/A rally car sound, that just means, a Naturally Aspirated Engine, basically a non turbo. Turbo'd rally cars like Evo's and Scobby's don't sound that nice nor exciting. Altough a rally car like a Mk2 Escort or a Toyota GT twincam coupe, really sounds the mutts nutt, have you ever heard one of these cars in a rally. If you have then u know what i mean, i'm guessing on your car with a good 16xe engine and a 4 branch and almost whole striaght thru pipe would sound like on of those, amazing! the exhaust note would be very simlar, just like it but without the intake roar of webbers. On my little 1.2 8v spi corsa, i have a decat, remus straight thru centre section and a rage 4 1/2 inch back box, and i'm going to fit my 4-1 ashley manifold from my nova, but the current manifold is std, and let me say even my little 1.2 with the exhaust setup similar to yours, is an amazing sound, it also makes the lovely sound under engine braking or changing gear, hard to describe but it has a very high pitched szzz sound, makes the car sound like a rally tuned engine. Do you know what i mean about this sound changing gear or coming down the gear? Maybe you could explain it better?

ive got exactly yhte saemset up on my car m8 apart from a manifold, and it pops and bangs when i first start it up when its cold!!! really loud though aint it!! mines on an x14xe sri

mines a similar setup (still got cat) also on an x16xe. load roar and pops and bangs during lowering gear change.
