some people seem to deem it necessary to space the gearbox mount in xe conversions, Ive heard 5, 10, 15mm and dont use one at all. what is the reasning behind this?

because it stops the need to have to grind the mount then weld it for strength. Not 100% sure but the spacers might also help with the gear linkage problems you get on a conversion

because when u lift an xe, let in. and bolt the front mounts on u can see that it needs a spacer to fill the gap. instead of pulling the mount over 15mm and putting strain on it as its at slight angle

Bolted the gearbox mount up fully to the passenger side and did it up tight, then dropped the engine in. The gap between the mount and the flange on the box was 12mm, so I got some half inch bar and made a spacer. Fits like a glove now
(Also used longer bolts)

Did you use longer gearbox mount bolts too? You need to if you didn't

i space the rear mount by 10mm, bolts you should use are M12 x90mm. Cutting the linkage is easy enough anyway al.

all depends where the mount under the car is bolted up tbh, theres a fair range of adjustment

I think mine is currently not using a spacer - the alt pulley sometimes hits the chassis leg under left hand cornering. Would it take much work to get the spacer in - would the linkage need re-adjusting?

fitting the spacer is an easy enough job, modifing the linkage is a doddle if you know were to cut it and how how to lenghten it by. Not the easiest job if you haent done one before! I have modified linkages before that people have posted me if that helps!
