ok then, iv got a pre 97 1.2 8v, and iv had an intermittent problem with the engine management light. all my probs started about 12 months ago, not long after having bought the car, one day it just wouldnt start, well it would start but instead of the engine management light goin off once the engine had started it started flashin instead then the engine just dies. sometimes it can take up2 30 minutes 2 get it started. over the past 8 or 9 months its only done it a couple of times, but more recently is doin it nearly every time i start it. also iv noticed it is more prone 2 happen if iv got some electrics operating (stereo, wipers, reverse light, fans, etc) iv had it on the diagnostic gizmo, n that reckon its somethin 2 do with the immobiliser. please somebody share your knowledge, as im really gettin pissed off with it now. (sorry about the essay )

Does the light flash when it comes on ??
And the diagnostic gizmo shud have given u some error codes, did u not see ?
If thats the case, wait till the EM light is on, and do the paper clip test ..

dont start flashing till a second or 2 after the engine has actually started, then when it starts flashin the revs just drop, no matter how hard i try 2 rev it (fuel pump disabled?) i never saw the error codes as it was done by a friend of my dad, he just said it was somethin 2 do with the immob

Ye, the EM light wont start to flash until a couple of seconds, it does check on the ECU, then if it finds a problem (immob - it will jus die) .. Cud be a number of things im affraid
Ull have to wait until it does it, and leave the ignition on .. And do the Paper clip test, this will give u a series of flash's through the EM light .. Then look it up

Look in the fuse box. to the left of the fuses there should be a 16 pin plug.
On the left bank of the plug short out the 5th and 6th pin from the bottom
