I have seen a car, that i like and in my price range, but the owner says the speedo cable has snapped, would it be wise to buy it ?, or as my dad seems to believe that people could have cut it to make mileage looks better than it is , i dont know if this is true, can some clear this up please.
And also how much would it cost for a new cable ? and how much for a new centre section of an exhaust?
Thanks in advance

Tell us more about the car.
In my opinion, milage doesn't matter. Cars these days can do well over 100,000 miles. If the car works, it works.

Its a 1.4 SRi, and has 97,000 miles doesnt really say much more on advert but there is only two things wrong with it and it has a short MOT.

go have a look at the car and ask to look at MOT certificates
each one has current milage stated on it from the day it was MOT`t
see what milage is on it`s current MOT paper then look on clocks and see what they currently read then make your own asumptions

Centre section should be around £15 for a standard one
a full std system from a trade shop will be £40 tops
check the door pillars for splits/cracks this is very common and will fail an MOT

You need to grind away all the rust and effected area then weld it back up then smooth the weld then respray the area
here is a pic of a really bad pillar just to give you an idea of what your looking for

Is the pillar thing a DIY or not?

depends on your own ability
can you weld
are you any good at body work
have you ever sprayed before
if the answer is no to any of them then you could potentially make a mess of any car

I would have a look at the car but dont get too attached to it there are plenty of corsa around not all of them are what the appear to be
if it has split pillars i would not buy it if it has no splits have a look at the paint rub away any dirt an see if they have been touched up remember to check out the Milage againts its most recent MOT paper
for the sake of a month or two and an extra couple of hundred quid it is worth waiting
there are loads coming up in classifieds on here - the right one will come along which will be close to yourself
