On the 30th December last year my right eye suddenly blurred over giving me cloudy vison. A day later and I woke up with the eye throbbing and streaming, after going to the doctors I was referred to hospital for an emergency appointment and admitted for over a week.
Iniatially they thought it was Pan Uvieitis - Usually brought on by bright lights.
Straight away I was given 90mg of steroids and antibiotics.
I was then on eye drops on the hour every hour from 6am until midnight, you wont believe how tired I was!
I was seeing specialists every morning and occasionally in the afternoon for eye tests, imagine A Clockwork Orange! I also had to take an HIV test just so they could rule it out, this also involved seeing a counciler, quite scary hearing all the scenarios!
I had loads of blood tests done and an eye swab which involved my eye being probed for tissue from the back of the eye, it wasn't painful as it was numbed but the pressure on my eye socket was immense! I was blind for several hours after this, all I saw was grey.
I was on steroids, the type body builders use from January till March, also another drug to counter balance them - Certainly put some weight on!! I also stopped taking the antibiotics and calcium tablets in March.
All in all I saw 13 specialists and no one can tell me the cause of my problem.
I had my own room in the eye ward which was nice! Food was lovely! I don't know what people are moaning about! Although the Sky tv cost 3.50 for 24hrs!
I was going to the hospital every week as an out patient, now I'm just going once a month. Plus blood tests every time because of the steroids.
Now I'm just taking a drop twice daily to keep the pressure down and a steroid drop which I'm taking 4 times a day.
My eye after the swab:
My pupil stayed that big until I stopped taking the dilating drops in March.
I also had to take this pic whilst on the steroids lol:
My eyes are now 20:16 - I may need glasses to correct them.
The bathroom on the ward!
And my selection of narcotics!

No, but when you work out anyway they do aid you. In hospital I put weight on, fat not muscle. Harder to take off than it is to put on!

if you take steroids and dont do anything nothing happens to muscles as such. apart from water retension. unlesss you did do bodybuilding while you was on them. it will go over time, when you come off them

Of course I did, made use of them whilst I was taking them, you produce fat otherwise. My chances of any professional sporting events are out the window though

how can addig muscle to your body be a sport?
surely weightlifting is, but bodybuilding itself isnt actually a sport

The doses he would have been given wouldnt be enough to aid muscle building. End of topic.

That wasn't the topic, I was being humourous. Steroid's only aid muscle building if your working out. As I was confined to a room most of the day they told me the steroids would make me gain weight.

Its scary when it first happens especially; I had Pan Uvieitis 3 years ago; I'd been teaching sailing and windsurfing all week and not worn sunglasses. came tothe thursday afternoon; came off the water and intothe clubhouse and literally couldnt see in either eye
it was probably the scariest thing that ever happened - I had the eyedrops every hour onthe hour for a couple of days and it did clear up fully afetr a week or so
but the lasting effect is that I cant see at all in the slightest bright lights; always have sunglasses on top of my head just in case!

Fucking Hell Marc!
Sounds like you've been in the wars mate.
You have my sympathies.
Anything eye based problem-wise is highly undesirable in my book.
I suffer from a condition whereby the lid attaches itself to the surface of the eyeball during sleep.
You can imagine the pain on opening the eye when awake again.
(I now keep my eyes shut for a few minutes on waking and open them very slowly, carefully and gingerly. I sometimes have to apply my presciption eye gel and go back to sleep for a couple of hours as i'm incapable of doing anything until the eye has settled down, due to the pain and blurred vision)
It is worsened by stress, dehydration and not enough sleep.
Alcohol can make things worse too.
I have to put the prescribed lubricative gel in the affected eye every night as a preventative measure.
I know how horrible those dilaters are, as I was misdiagnosed at first.
The idiot in my local eye clinic prescribed a drop that I was allergic to AND gave me a dilater that was too potent.
The drop made my eye swollen and sore and unbelievably painfull aswell as horribly light sensitive.
It streamed constantly, and the dilater dilated my pupil to it's maximum size for in excess of 50 hours rather than an hour or two, so you can imagine the effect.
I'd just started a new job, and had to go back to the hospital a couple of hours into my first day and then stay at home in the dark for another two days.
Eye pain is no bloody joke.
Has your condition stabilized now, or is it likely to worsen Marc?

God man, some of that sounds really nasty! you must have been scared/worried at times.
regarding the steroids what did they put you on? im guessing it was also tablets and not injectables.
Its right what someone said about post cycle therapy, when you are on steroids your natural testosterone production is shut down, more often than not all the way to 0. If you dont take meds when you come of the steroids it will take a long time for your natural testosterone to come back, 6 months and possibly a lot longer. meds would get your natural test back a lot quicker.
implications of this are your libido will dissappear, and you will experience massive lean tissue loss. having nil or very low testosterone can also have mental health implications ie depression.
not trying to scare you, but i would find more out if i were you.
I would not count on the doctors knowledge, 20 years ago steroids were widely prescribed in medicine for all kinds of health problems, today they are rarely used as a result the med school glasses on them are minimal. I know of bodybuilders that know a hell of a lot more about them then doctors.
I would see an endocrinologist personally, and have tests for testosterone and follice stimulating hormone etc.
hope this helps and get well soon m8.
