Recently my computer has auto-updated itself with a new windows feature
aka Windows Genuine Advantage
this bugger tells microsoft that i have an unregistered version of win xp
i changed the setting so it stopped the pop ups from appearing but it now tells me because i wont buy a registration key from them that i can also no longer update my system with any new security features
i have seen patches and have tried downloading them through Limewire but windows automaticly deletes them and tells me its removed a virus
can any one shed some light on this and tell me how to get around microsofts latest money making scheme
obviously registering is not an option

if i may ask: do you have a genuine windows installed?
You need service pack 2 installed
in IE:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> click Manage Add-ons
Find the Windows Genuine Advantage add-on in the menu and then click Disable in the Settings box.
Back to the Windows Update page and everything will be back to normal

i honestly can not remember as my mate in the it department gave me a disc with several key codes on it probably not genuine

I had it installed by auto updates and had figured out how to remove it in under 5 minutes
here we go a frosty tutorial on how I got rid
Turn off auto updates or change it to notify but not install
go into REGEDIT
(backup the registry incase you make a mistake)
search for
WgaLogon
It will be the one under the Notify Section
Delete the folder called WgaLogon
restart the PC and delete these 2 files
WgaLogon.dll
WgaTray.exe
I think I remebered that correctly
that should remove that stupid logon thing and still let you get critical updates
just dont install the Windows Genuine Advantage one again

OK The new WGA Validation & Notification has been hacked
Just find the new LegitCheckControl.dll (v1.5.526.0) and upload that to system32 in safe mode AFTER you have installed the latest WGA Notification update (note i said NOTIFICATION not validation)
All the pop ups and nags dissapear - works great

other methods of turning of nags etc and other tools you may want to play with include......
Search for "BlueCheck Genuine Advantage Windows XP Crack"
also to disable just the nags...
To disable it run reg edit goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
Right click on Settings (Key/Folder) ->
Permissions ->
Advanced ->
Untick Inherit from... ->
Remove any permissions left in the box above ->

Everyone ->
Tick Deny Full Control ->

You have just stopped anyone from accessing the data that tells
the WGA notification programs whether your copy is genuine or not.
This only disables the WGA Nags, it isnt a bypass for the indows genuine advantage check.
There is also a tool called MUBLINDER - ive attached the tool and here is the info.....

muBlinder ( Microsoft Update Blinder ) is a small 40kb application that bypasses Microsoft Update's Genuine Windows Validation and allows you to view, choose and install all available updates. how do they find out when people have illegal versions is it because when you update online they can see what key code you have and if several people have it then they block it
