finally found a decent xe,spent thursday afternoon taking out the 1.4,no major problems, apart from tryin to take the n/s driveshaft out with the 10mm bolt still in it.quite enjoyed it. got a bit wet and covered in shoot, but of course it will all be worth it when the new lump is in.
while its empty im gettin the engine bay sprayed, and before anyone mentions them, the fog lights are hidden behind my mesh!,so
goin to strip the xe down over the next week or so,new gaskets, cambelt kit, head off,and as its been sittin take the sump off and give it a good clean, gearbox off change the clutch. want to get all the grease and shoot of the engine, any ideas? heard GUNK is the stuff but never seen this anywhere, cheers

nice work

might as well give the crank and shells a once over while the sump is off and replace the cork sump gasket with a wraparound rubber type one off a 2 litre 8v. and some washers to space the bolts out.

to clean the crap off the new engine just use parrafin. its only 50p a litre and i find it better than gunk, just a bit harder to was off but doesnt leave a white residue. just brush it on and use a jetwash to wash it off i did my gearbox and it went from this:

to this:

nice looking car, why not colour code the motor and box etc with the car, good cleaner like gunk etc, then well cleaned of with thinners and wire brushes etc, then 2 pack it

I have done bike engines in 2 pack with metal flake, well cool effect, might get some discolouration around the exhaust area but shouldnt be too bad, nice polished stainless exhaust shield will hide it.
