i was unaware that a 1.0 12v is more powerful than a 1.2 8v

Vauxhall Corsa B 1.0 12v 55 bhp
Vauxhall Corsa B 1.2 8v 45 bhp

Yes

1.2 8v's take a hammering all day though, the 12 volts break down every 5 minutes.

In real life it's honestly not noticeable, in a straight line the 12 volts pull away by literally a few metres

The 8v also has 4 cylinders, the 12v is a sewing machine with 3 cylinders.

That has got to be the most crappest engine GM have ever used!

Dont know about anyone else but my 1.2 8v was hard as nails! Never once had a problem with it and I put a fair few miles on to it!

Might of been slow but it was very reliable and a great 1st car for me

I remember when I had a 1.4spi and that was a joke my mate had a 1.2 and it was virtually the same speed etc..
The only good thing about it was that it was reliable and could take a thrashing.

Never again though, I don't think I could cope with a 1.0 12 volt though

Yep same here. My mate has one and he hammers it from cold every day, he's now 20 and has had it three years, bouncing off the limiter none stop from cold and it's fine

They're not really that good for runabouts IMO. They need pushing too much so return 35mpg max round town. Well that's the most I've ever got out of it!

Yes round town fuel economy goes down alot like it does with any other car...

You dont need to rag them at all to drive normally. If you remember its a 1.2 8v and drive accordlingly then it'll pootle along fine and return good MPG.

If you go round screaming the tits off it cos you want to go fast then it'll be crap on MPG just like any other car would be

What about round town then, 35mpg seems reasonable?

I don't rag it round town but it needs to be pushed to get upto the limit!

35MPG doesnt seem too bad for just town driving. lots of gear changes dont help with fuel economy.

I used to drive it quite carefully most of the time. Usually 65mph on the dual carriageway, 70 on the motorway.

Drive pretty much the same as that now with my 16v and get about 42MPG out of it.
