right so here goes... just about to put my car back on the road after a slight mishap with a running lampost. While the car was off the road i was thinking of a few things to do engine wise...
was considering TB's however there pricey it will be shit hot once there on etc..
however i was also toying with the idea of supercharging using a mini cooper s blower? anyone done such thing ? Engine is a C16XE.
for the people in the know whats the advantage and dissadvantage of supercharging?
opinions please?
Thanks Mark

supercharging can be done but tricky to get right. I know of 2 thats been done and both had problem after problem.it will probably cost more than tb's in the long run as well as you would need a new inlet anyway:
charger: £500
new inlet: 400
extras (belts, hoses etc: £250
management and loom: £650
mapping: £400
and thats just the basics. Throttle bodies are reliable, cheap to run, and a proven way to an easy 160+ bhp. dont cost that much if you fit yourself, mine cost about £1600 all in inc loom and management etc...

You can pick up a Mini 'charger for less that £500. Most of the are brand new too because people buy the Cooper S and have the charger replaced at the dealership for a S Works one and save themselves several thousand quid.

tbh superchargers are better than turbo's because they give the constant supply of power when you boot it, as with a turbo it may take time to come onto boost. the best thing to do with the c16/x16xe's if you have a decent budget would be to....
port/polish and skim 'to death' the cylinder head
dblias inlet manifold with uprated/bigger injectors
lightened and balanced crankshaft/uprated pistons
full stainless steel exhaust system with induction kit.
or do wat everyone else does and drop in the good ol'redtop!

tbh ad rather have a 1.6 that out performs a redtop..
dunno why just that everyone opts for it and i would rather have somthing that beats it which isnt one!

true, its like my 'little' 1.4 8v, when i tell people its only a small 'un they laugh and say my 16valver will do me, but mine pisses all over 1.4 16v's and just about keeps up with the 1.6's that are slightly modified. agree with ya m6rkk

just a few questions,
1.why fit bigger injectors?
2. why fit uprated pistons?
not gonna benefit from them. anyway doing all that for just 130 bhp is a waste.

standard engine ur looking at 150ish bhp with tb's. Ignore SBD claims of 165 bhp.
fit ARP rod bolts and SBD rollers and you can raise rev limit to 8k and have some real fun! its leaves the door open for future mods as well, balanced bottom end, pocketed pistons, wild cams...... and with the right money 220 bhp.
