Now you know full well that if this was an England player, say Rooney for example he would be banned from playing in the rest of the World Cup, is a fricking joke it really is

Figo cleared for England showdown

Van Bommel and Figo went head to head on Sunday
Luis Figo can play in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against England after Fifa ruled out further action for a headbutt on Holland's Mark van Bommel.
The Portuguese skipper was booked and because referee Valentin Ivanov took action, Fifa will not intervene.

Fifa communications director Markus Siegler said: "He was sanctioned immediately by the referee at the time.

"The referee's report is being analysed but it is very unlikely anything will happen as he has been sanctioned."

It had been suggested Fifa could upgrade the yellow card to a red, potentially leading to a one-match ban that would have ruled him out of the game in Gelsenkirchen.

Van Bommel said: "Figo headbutted me and that is not a yellow card. I blame the referee, it was a clear red card."

But Siegler said: "It is only where there is a clear disciplinary issue, which has not been acted upon by the referee, that the disciplinary committee can look at it."

Portugal will be without influential midfielders Deco and Costinha, who were two of four players sent off in a stormy 1-0 win over Holland in Stuttgart.

Replays appeared to show Figo made some contact with Van Bommel and had he been dismissed, Portugal would have been reduced to nine men against a full-strength Dutch team at the time.

Figo was later involved in more controversy when his tangle with Khalid Boulahrouz led to the Holland defender being dismissed for a second yellow card.

However, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari defended Figo.

He said: "Jesus said we should turn the other cheek, unfortunately, Figo is not Jesus Christ."

Fucking rediculous imo. How a headbut can be deamed a yellow card offense i do not know. Also how FIFA are not interveining is clearly rediculous too.
What a joke.

Thing I cant understand is this. FIFA say that Figo was punished for the headbut by the way of a yellow card. Fair enough, but, wastn the Italian fella punished by the way of the Red? Yet they increase his ban and not ban Figo

Doesnt make sence

Watching the game as said refs back was at Figo and I never seen him talking to his assistant either, so why was he booked because wasn't for the headbutt...In a game like that you were getting booked for sneezing near a player there is no way if the ref knew about the headbutt that Figo would still be on the pitch???

He should be banned.....full stop, load of nonsense.

They are appealing agianst Deco's 2nd yellow and hoping to get it overturned before the England game so Deco can play?? Can't see it though myself.

nah figo should be banned!! he wasnt booked for the head butt, he was booked for being invloved in the altercation!! if the ref saw the headbutt, it obviously would have been a red card!!

if the ref saw the headbutt and decided it was only a yellow card, he should never be allowed to referee againa s that is a disgrace, and i agree with the top point, if wayne rooney would have done that hed probs be banned for the rest of the tournament!!
