Not very well made, quite prone to headgasket failure and they never really recover once its been replaced, quickish for what they are, just a tarted up Rover 25. Steer clear imo, think they are a pile of poo.

Buy the bits from his nearest MGR parts outlet Rob, or take it to his nearest MGR repair agent.
There's loads around still, and parts are readily available.

I believe Dastek do a good conversion for the 1.4 16v (MG ZR 105) up to 140bhp in conjuction with an exhaust/filter i think.

I wouldn't get one mate, as already said just a tarted up rover 25. For the price of one could get something far better.

My dad has the 2.0 turbo diesel. think its around 110 bhp but torquy. goes quite well, handles great and does over 60mpg if driven at 56mph. hes had it from new, they took 3 attempts to get all the lights working and the towbar electrics sorted properly at new. then 2 months old it needed a gearbox. then the alarm fucked n it wouldnt start.. there been a couple of other niggly things with it but nothing more as of yet. think its about 2 years old

the way to look at it you are buying a 12 year old design of car with some nice new bumpers and wheels
Engines are very weak - they are quite fast but a prone to the heads going and opnce they go they will go again and again
interior is what you would expect of a 12 year old design
IMo get the Zetec S. So much better to drive and are very fast for what they are
They wiould easily beat a 1.6 sport
