That padding stuff around the fuel pump and around the spare wheel holder?

What exactly is it for?

I've tried a screwdriver underneath but it takes forever and makes a mess.

The stuff around the fuel pump should come off easy, just chips away in big pieces with no glue residue. The piece around the wheel well was a nightmare.

Monster, when it's very very cold, it chips off realy easy in big lumps in my experience.

Try blasting it point blank with a CO2 extinguisher on a cold/cool day with the car jacked up, and then smack it from behind the panel with a leather mallet.

You'll probably be surprised how much falls off.

Look's 10x better with it removed. Same colour underneath? don't want it being a different colour underneath, it'll just look even worse!!

I was looking at it today, looks like ALOT of prep work to spray inside...

Same with mine. It took about 3hours and 4 tins of primer and 4 paint. Makes it look 100% better. Id never sprayed anything before either. Turned out ok. You can get brocade yellow spray tins.
