how much do you think I could get?

Its a red 1998 Vauxhall Corsa Breeze
94K, MOT untill jan 07 & tax for about 11 months

Is there such a thing as a book price for a trade in?

Looking at this possibly: Clicky

Its not a massive garage but surely they'll take part ex?

I drove home today past all the main dealerships & outside one of them was a banged out Cav with stickers all over it "We payed £1000 for this in part ex"

Now £1000 would be ace, but this is only an independant dealership so they might not match such a good price

matt h ...

your car will have a book price, only problem like mav has pointed out the book guide starts from '99 onwards.

your car will be worth exactly the same to any dealers in the trade. they will give you an appraisal and be able to tell you how much it's worth.

they can then discount the car that you are looking to buy. depending on how much the car you are wanting to buy is/ how long they've had it etc... depends how much money they have in the car to discount.

example...

your car is worth £800
car you want to buy is £8000
they have £600 profit in it
they can offer you £1400 for your car...

hope that helps a little

yeah if you can sell it private then you have the potential to sell for more than book price...

will make no difference to the deal though at the garage if you have a trade in or not

I went to buy a E46 BMW once & the guy said he would rather sell to me cash / no trade than to a woman who wanted it on finance & banger to trade. I wasnt convinced but he was willing to drop the price by 2400!!!

no idea why he would do that, it makes no sense...

if he could drop the price by £2400 for cash then he could still drop it by that if you were trading in

if he didn't want to keep your banger he could have underwritten it to another garage who would have bought it off him. the discount on the car you were looking at would still be in the vehicle as before

also... depending on what finance you went with he might have made comission off that too

sounds like he just couldn't be arsed with paperwork

It was a Subaru main dealer & he just said I would be easier to deal with. He said I was getting a much better deal than her!!

if you paid cash then in the long run you would have got the car cheaper because she would be paying interest on the amount she was financing.

put that asside and he could have given you both exactly the same deal because the same amount of discount could have been given off the bmw.

you were the easier person to deal with like he said because there would be less time involved and less paperwork. wouldn't have said you would be getting a much better deal though.

hard to explain but does that make sense?

again not sure what their dealership is like but i can discount cars by x% then i have to go ask the sales manager if i can knock more off.

when he dropped it to £6600 that means to me that they bought that car off someone for £6600 or less.
