I think my head is cracked Its looks like water has leaked into the rocker even after the gasket changed. Its not firing on the 4th cylinder, not sure if that has any affect. Its one thing after another Not driven my rallye for nearly 2 months now. Just got paid and instead of buying things i want to buy for it im paying out just to get it working. *cries*

Yeah. We only did a visual check over to see if it was warped at all but it looked fine. Cant see as thats why water would be getting in. May just be old water still in there from before?

Talking about the valve rob? The valve is sooty, unlike the others which look clean.

The compression on the other cylinders is 11 bar average.

Oil temp was sky high. We didnt exactly measure it. What sort of a place would I be able to get it skimmed? Port and polish worth it? How can I check if its cracked before I pay to get any work done?

to be honest, i wouldnt bother having anything done to it other than a skim, because you dont know the problem.

also, did it lose all its water on the track?

Its an alloy block, so more likely. How much is skimming? How can I buy a head and not be sure it isnt warped though? Or how I can I get my head skimmed knowing it might be cracked? Its a gamble.

Pressure tested? How much is that? If I have it skimmed wont I need a thicker head gasket? Would this have any affect on the cylinder which isnt firing?

no idea how much it would be, but it wont be expensive.

no, a normal HG will be fine.

if the head was warped, yes, it might fix it, and make it run...

last time i had a skim and pressure test it was about 75 quid with vat etc. if the compression is only 14psi roughly it could be a bent valve. mostly they dont have any compression when ive had bent valves thou

When a head is warped it takes less than a mm to bugger things up. A visual check won't suffice.

I own a 16 year old car that I thrash mercilessly every day.

Nothing has broken yet.

Just owning a car full stop is the problem Jimbo.

If I were you I would save the £100 they charge for a pressure test and the £50 for the skim and source a second hand head, Skim that then fit it with an uprated headgasket
