iam getting my own computer tonight, so i bought a wireless router today so i can share the broadband, but was wondering how they normally conect to the main computer as the instructions arnt very clear,
the main computer in the house which had broadband is with tesco, a telephone wire gos into the back off it and the is another wire which connects to the back of the computer by a usb cable, there are no other slots on the back of the modem so was just wondering how you conect it all up, cheers

If you get an ADSL Router (my tip is the Netgear DG834G) you wont have to worry about the modem because it has one built in
you just plug the router into you microfilter, then connect your main computer to the router using the supplied network cable...then any other machines you want can connect wirelessly (sp)

i take it you have a router that hasnt got an adsl modem built in?
is the router just a normal wireless access point
if the router doesnt have an external modem connection its not going to work that well

does the router have a dedicated modem port? not a built in modem but somewhere to plug an external one?#
whats the model dlink?

the router is a D-Link DSL-924
on the back of the router it has a adsl port, 4 ethernet ports

plug the modem into the adsl port, then the modem into the phone line, then plug your pc into the ethernet port on the router using a cat5 cable, your pc will need a network card or wireless card

on the back of the modem there only 2 ports, one is the phone line and the other conects to the computer by a usb cable so i cant see a way of conecting the modem to the adsl port, or iam i being thick,
also why do i need a network card or wireless card,
sorry for all the questions, just dont no that much about computers

you need to get a different modem then that has the capability to plug into the router, the usb only is for a standalone system only..
You could setup internet connection sharing but that doesnt always work and it crap.

if so it has a adsl modem built in you bug bastard
in which case you can chuck the usb modem you have in the bin

plug the adsl on the back to the phone line with a filter, then plug a network cable from the ethernet ports on the router to your PC
then configure the router using your webbrowser see your manual, usuallys its http://192.168.1.1

No not the phone line port.
An ethernet port which you probably don't have.
