1.3 can be chipped, goes from 70bhp to 80, and 126lb/ft to 141.
1.7 goes from 100bhp to 120bhp, and 178lb/ft to 208.
figures are taken from http://www.bluechiptuning.co.uk/catalog/Corsa-238-1.html
performance figures for a standard 1.3 are;
13.5 seconds to 60mph, 102mph max, 61mpg
figures for the 1.7 SRi are;
10.5 seconds to 60mph, 112mph max, 57mpg
1.3 is ins group 4, 1.7 is group 6.

The 1.3 is a very good engine. You could always upgrade the turbo on it to the one they are going to be using on the Corsa D to give you 90bhp, not sure if that will work though, theoretical. I would recomend you get an insurance quote for the 1.7 to see how much it will be...

I had the 1.3 CDTi as a company car for a month or so and I really like it. Flat until 3k and then turbo kicks in and pulls right through to 5k ish. I was really impressed with it. Recon the 1.7 could be brilliant, but I would still have a 1.3.

I was talking to a mechanic at Vauxhall yesterday and he said they have had quite a few Corsa C 1.7 CDTi's in with problems.
But no problems with the 1.3 engine.

i say otherway around! egr valves always going wrong-right nightmare job too! noisy flywheel when starting up, ecu's an absolute arse to programme(script errors anyone) poor starting,turbo pipe blowing off!!
the z17dth's seem pretty bulletproof!

true, i'd say the 1.3 is more prone than the z17dth/dtl. done couple of egr valves on the 1.3, not nice job!! fitted couple of turbos, injectors go knackered, usual turbo pipes blowing off, fuel rail problems, as for the 1.7 cdti, boost pressure sensors, oil pump pulleys sometimes tend to come loose/oil pump leaks, mass air flow meters, the usual!

How does that mean he was lying?
He was talking about the particular dealership he works at. Not nationwide.

Whatever bhp the smaller one is it uses the variable vane turbo anyway.
