Right, at the moment ive got a 1996 1.4 Corsa Sport.

But i want a newer one, with power steering etc, but im thinking about a 1.6, just want to know what insurance is like, ill have to get a quote like, but ill be on my dads insurance as added driver.

I had a go in one on Monday night, it seems very similar to mine, only felt a difference in 3rd gear really, but power steering is amazing

A lad at my work has offered me a 2000 V plate 1.6 Corsa Sport, in silver, 45k,power steering, Air con AND sunroof, which i hear is rare??

Only thing is, its been a write off, which doesnt bother me cause i work at a car repair centre and the lad at my work has repaired it and its fine, it just needs bonnet, wing and both bumpers painting, which will cost me 20-30 quid at the most, but then needs a VIC check, MOT and taxing, said i can have it for 1500, which i think is cheap for the mileage etc, but thinking of selling mine, and offering him 1200 cash or something, what you think?

Air con and sunroof is rare yeah, usually either or.

I would offer him 1200, seems a good deal, just watch out for the insurance. Iv'e got a 1.4 sport now and im still trying to afford to get on my own insurance.

that would be a bastard of a job to fit wouldn't it? When mine had the 1.6 in it came with aircon, but no sunroof. Now my mate has a 1.4 16 valve and he has got a sunroof no aircon.

you do only get one or the other, and a 1.6 sport v plate with 45k on is worth slightly more then £1200

the silver 1.6s are pretty widely available the hardest part i found whas finding a clean tidy one i had to search for a month and in the end drive to derby for mine

insure was only £5 a week more for me so i was chuffed, you say you didnt notice much when u were driving it besides 3rd gear but there is alot about them that are better, torque is alot better for starters, id never go back now

Yep its currently sat on my drive.
Plans are to fix the headgasket, stick my cav rims on it, and get it on the road. Then eventually coilovers and cage will be on the list.

my mates w-reg has air con and sunroof,

its more common with both than just the air-con,

remember the shells were pre-made not the aircon so if a customer asked for aircon it'd be added to a sunroof shell

if its a 2.0 xe you sure the head aint gone pourous or is it genuinely just the gasket thats gone?

if its not a cos cast head i would recommend putting one on when you change the gasket.

Well didnt really give it some, seen as it wasnt my car, 1st and 2nd didnt seem much different, i can get 60-65 out of mine in 3rd, and this was easily going over 70, didnt get into 4th as i came up to my turning.

I need to get the rest of my car painted and together, then hopefully sell it and get this 1.6

I personally wouldn't pay £1500 for a car i knew had been accident damaged. Try for 1200.

Most of the cars people at my work own, have been in accidents, seen as its a car repair centre, they get it done easy.

One lad just got a 54 Plate 1.8 Corsa C SRi, now its fully repaired and painted etc, cost him just under 3k.

I hear you can only get insured with Adrian Flux if you have NCB? Which i have none of.

Id try offer £1200 Andy, seems like a bargain though if you can get it repaired yourself

I have got 80 out of my 1.6 without hitting the limiter, and just over 100 in 4th, the amount of torque they have compared to the 1.4 is vastly different.

Ask Robin, he had a 1.4 Sport putting out 115bhp, yet he says his bog standard 106bhp 1.6 was a much nicer, and faster, car to drive.
