My grandad as a polo mk5 its a 53 reg and the heaters only work when you turn it up to 4. 1-3 dont work at all. Any ideas on what would cause this? I am guessing its a loose connection but it looks like the lower part of the dash has to come off to gain access to it.
Any suggestions anyone?

resistor gone gone, so only works on/off? or a relay?

Heater motors and blower direction motors are common on polo's, you get access to them behind the glovebox. However they are a bit of a bitch to change though and youve got to make sure the direction motor is lined up properly and due to its location its not easy.
Could also be the resistor playing up as these are also known problems. Best to get get it checked out by an auto electrician or ideally vw specialist/dealer
