I just cut the ends off my legal numberplates and i have been told these are fine. If you change the text in any way then it is ilegal.

Its legal to cut down your plate as long as you have a 11mm gap between the edge of the plate and the start of the first/last letter.

Thanks bud

I always assume i'll get in trouble with it. Have been lucky so far. I carry the plate for times like the one where we got blocked in somewhere by the police and were VOSA checked on the way out.

I've been pulled with it, the copper has looked round the car and turned a blind eye. More interested in the condition of my tyres, which is nice.

Owner of the blue corsa has been given a £30 fine for his one though, So I guess it's a case of wrong place worng time

I dont think it matters if you have legal plates with you or not. When Gaz got stopped for his plates, he has the legal ones in his boot, he said to the policeman do you want me to change them, and the police man said no... And still give him a £30 fine and told him to change the plates.

I have a smaller plate aswell.

Dont carry the normal sized one round with me as if I got stopped then I would be blatantly admitting that I knew the one I have on at the moment is illegal! So I will just play dumb if I do get stopped.

Had it on since June and not been stopped...
