Hey there. Just wondering if there is anything 'importantly bad' about having a blowy exhaust. Its just a standard GM one (liek everything else on the car) and obv it maks more noise but i only need to get it repaired for MOT next august?

Cheers

Yeah, will be less responsive and sound really bad - is it either of the boxes blowing or just the pipework? If it's only the pipework, it'll be relatively cheap to get welded up.

dunno mate im not inclined to laying underneath the car with the present weather conditions, its being doing it for a good month so i assume the hole will be relatively easy to see if i get under there later this afternoon with the torch when the missus turns up?

Possibly pipework then, like where it is welded to the hooks under the car etc. If you can't find the hole, get a rag, put it in your hand, cover the end of the exhaust and ask someone to feel under the car!

and covering the exhaust wont damage the engine? im going home from uni on 15th so ill probly just drop into kingsway and have them look at it, see if it can be patched up, cos not like i can weld it even if i do find the hole

if there isnt a hole and the exhaust is ok the car will stall when you cover it, if it doesnt then you know theres a hole, and it wont fuck up the engine if you find the hole quick

Police won't like it if it's noisy.

Looks/sounds a bit council.

No it won't damage it - it'll basically mean you can hear the hole more as all the gases are going out of it. If you're worried about doing it, don't cover it too tightly.

ta for all the advice, like i say ill leave it for kingsway to do properly, i know its blowing cos it is a lot louder than what it used to be.

when we first got the car we were upgrading from a 1.4LS and the standard exhaust note was 'nicer' if u know what i mean, does the sri have special parts in the exhaust to do this or something?
