What about a Transit? What with it being the best Transit sized van and all.

My dad has only ever had a Transit van and he's a builder, can't fault them, always work, rarely break. Oh, he did have a Sierra pick up when he first started

Was thinking you could get one this shape for £3k but it'll probably really high mileage - they did make them on a 51 plate, could get a 2001 Y if I remember correctly. Either way, any Transit is good:

You can get a vivaro for 3.5k, the good thing about transits from my dads point of view is you can get sheets of plasterboard lyin flat on the floor whereas in his transporter they have to be on their side, The transporter is a much better van imo tho,

transporters are shit if you want to put anything decent sized and heavy in. Plus there not that reliable and the interiors fall apart.

Transits ive noticed are built better, there more comfortable on long journeys and can take/carry more. There not really slow either.

Old shape vitos have the worst brakes in the world and are about the same size as a transporter inside.

The vivaro/master/primastar are pretty good but as there not that old the prices are quite high.

My dads regularly has large heavy loads in it an hasnt had any problems really, and the interior hasnt fallen apart at all, although it is light coloured which is a bad idea for a builders van, His van has had more hits than the beatles, its been crashed into 3 times or so and each time the other vehicles have came off worse.

Ive got a lwb connect and I cant fault it. Our vans will do about 50000 miles in a year.

Its got full electrics and air con aswell so its nicer to drive than the car

My Transit Connect is spot on, paid £6k in april for it though on an 04 plate. For 3k I'd go for a Transit. Vitos hold their money well so you won't get anything worth looking at for 3k and the Vivaro/Traffic etc is above the price.
