I've got 6 months left at Uni and I'm really keen to purchase another car to have as a project once I've left! I've currently got a flame red 1.2 8V which is semi-modified (Gsi bumper, alloys, zorst, Cally interior etc). Do I...

1.) Keep Corsa as a runabout and buy a show/weekend car
2.) Buy a runabout and make the Corsa into a show/weekend car
3.) Sell Corsa and have just 1 car as both a daily runabout AND show car?

Got my eye on a couple of 2 litre Corsas the the mo, which would be better to have as a 'nicer' project car than a 1.2 8V?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

4.) keep corsa as it is til Uni is over, then buy a different car.

IMO.

Wouldnt it be better to look for another car now, cos they're cheaper round this time of year?

but if you're at Uni, you can't use both, and you could save more cash up in the 6 months, and buy something better than you could now...

Running two cars is expensive.

If you can insure a 2 litre buy one and put your bits on. You'll spend money taxing and insuring the 1.2 that would be better spent running the 2 litre.

I know that this is a modifying site etc etc but my advice to you would be.......

Sell your Corsa and buy the best newest car you can afford. I have modified 2 Corsas now and very much regret spending the money I did on them.

However, if you must modify, again, buy the best base model you can. Unless you are ripping the engine out. I bought a 1.6 sport as my 2nd car and modded that, power steering, leccy windows, mirrors etc etc......

Cheers!
If I kept the 1.2 as a daily car and bought a 'project' I wouldnt be doing massive amounts to it...it would be a matter of slight subtle touches and a bit of weekend fun (if I could get cheap limited mileage insurance like I did on my kit car), hence my wanting to possibly buy an already converted Corsa! If I bought a 2.0, I might even not insure and tax it, and just use it for track days etc...for a year or so until I'm earning decent money!
If a 2.0 has been put in a corsa, but not changed on the logbook, does it invalidate your insurance if you insure it as it was originally? Whats the procedure like to change the logbook, is it simply a matter of informing the 'people'?

if it's a 2 litre, you need to insure it as one, and change the cc on the logbook, along with the engine number.

Whats the worst that can happen if you tax it as a for eg. a 1.4 instead of the correct 2.0?

Insurance is invalid so you don't get paid out, plus the car can be seized (read this - http://www.motorinsurance.co.uk/news/1283.html )

You can also be fined for no tax which is also not valid, tax evasion including back-paying the amount which you have not paid since having the car like that.

Its generally not worth doing.
