Which would you prefer to own & comments why.
Examples of cars in question:
Polo
Pug
Something like those anyway, thinking I might chop the car early next year, these are the most sensible motors I can think of I like

i'd go for the pug. not biased!!!! depends what you want it for, i'd go for the pug if you just want smiles, polo if you want a more refined sporty drive. what about the lupo gti??? i prefer them over the polo. i think the 1.6 in the polo is a bit tame.

ah no you won't!! Rare as rocking horse shit so hold there value well!!!
I think you'll get a better pug for £3500 than you would a polo. Are you looking to modify it or leave it alone??

not really, 106gti if you want something fun, fast, and handles well, polo gti if you want something sluggish, bit boaty, but refined and reliable

the polo is certainly built better, but for excitement the 106 is a far better drive

yeah but one is built out of coke cans and the other is built with iron!!! One extreme to another!!! The polo's are solid little cars, good build quality etc, the 106 is just a pure drivers hot hatch.

the lack of performance is made up by the superior build quality of the whole car. it will last and last, and when you open the door it wont sound like the ring pull on top of a beer can as its made of metal not the silver bits out of a kit-kat wrapper
for 6 months of fun, 106 then expect to turn back and collect bits of it up from the road that have fallen off

don't get me wrong, i love those polo's and it's not all about how fast etc... if you aren't going to do anything to it and your just gonna drive it i'd prefer to have the polo, i wasn't gonna do anything to the ibiza, but i just got bored hence the remap, and that was a solid car but it was just far too refined for me at 19!!!! especially when my mate had just stripped out his dc5 and i absolutely loved it, my car felt like a sensible family car after being in it!!!! hence the 106!!!! i love it. but it depends what you want.

LOL!!!! So true, i needed to shove the doors on my ibiza just to close them, a little breeze slams the 106 doors shut!!!!

the main thing on the 106 that will break is the gearbox, the rest of it will be fine if you look after it

1 second in 0-60 is nothing really to me anyway I guess, I like a paced drive every now & then but I can scare myself in any car im driving tbh pushing it to its limits.
What would be quicker once moving say 70-100???
Top speed of each??

106gti will be quicker whatever way you look at it, same power but a lot lighter

i totally disagree with this "the polos heavier" etc
i "raced" a throttled bodied 106 gti with my polo gti (standard engine) and kept up with him all the way
