Are these the 2.5 v6's? The v6 is very gutless if it is the engine i'm thinking of.

My dads old ST24 was an awesome car to drive, it handled like it was on rails and had so much grunt.

There are no 02-03 plate ST200's. ST200's are Mk2's. The Mk3 Mondeo came out in 2001. An 02 plate ST Mondeo is the ST220, 3.0 24v 227bhp lump. Very torquey and cracking cars. If getting an ST220, get a post July 03 (facelift) model. Comes with a 6 speed box and looks slightly better.
ST200's are pretty good value for money. Rare in any other colour bar imperial blue. A few white ones escaped into the market because of a cancelled police order. Pick a good one up for about £3.5-4.
ST24's are basically the same as ST200's apart from they use the SEA engine (170bhp) instead of the SEB. Slightly different throttle body, inlet manifold and slightly lower compression ratio. Not a bad engine in any way, certainly much better than the V6 found in Cav's etc.
To call either engine gutless is a very uneducated comment.
P.S No Mondeo ST's came with a 2.0 engine.

St220 is also good enough to slightly outpace my heavy 2.0 Corsa, and its a big car, so not all that slow.
No boubt it would have oblitorated my XE at top end. The most the speeds rose, the quicker he left me....

The ST220 has a torque curve that many other V6's could dream of. It pulls hard from 2k right to the red line. Car is easily capable of 150mph.

I used to bully ST220 mundenos in my old Astra GTE 16v Daimo... your corsa must of been heavy!!!
no doubt over 100mph it would be a different story but from 0-100 there was feck all in it!!!

Wouldn;t touch the st200, the st220 on the other hand much better car.

Did you ever try to negotiate a corner with said "Mundeno" in pursuit? Would have left your Ashtray in it's dust.

ST200 is a viable, cheaper alternative. Slightly slower (25bhp less) than the ST220, but nothing a decat and bluefin wouldn't sort.

yup... my mate driving the mundeo, I was pushing it through roundabouts... but thats all down to who is driving really...
still... astra is OVER 500kgs lighter... and we all know a heavy FWD car like a mondeo understeers like a pig

Em, no. A FWD Mondeo doesn't understeer like a pig, they are fantastic handling cars and require a lot of punishment to start to understeer. The speeds needed to make it slide would have seen you picking bits of Astra out of the nearest bush.

your defensive nature of the mondeo amuses me!
here... eat some stats for your beloved mondeo... I can think of plenty of quicker "warm" hatches!!
Ford Mondeo ST220
Year Power Weight BHP/Ton 0 - 60 1/4 Mile Term Speed
03 223 1550 146.18 7.28 15.65 91.33

yes ST200 is a good car but 220 is a cracking car and looks the part
They are very heavy on Juice though
I would imagine its hard to find a decent ST200

Why? I'm just telling it how it is. The Mondeo isn't meant to be a hot-hatch. That's what the Focus RS is for.
It's a high specc'd hatch/saloon/estate that can shift if it wants to, and corners like it's on rails.

Probably find that most ST200's are in decent nick. They were limited edition so most owners will have took care of them. There will be the odd one that's been bought and caned to within an inch of it's life, but on the whole, they should be well maintained.
