i've recently had a semi smooth tailgate done but i've not fitted a solenoid, so the only way i can open the boot is from the inside.
do i need to access the boot from the outside in order to pass my m.o.t. which is due soon?
thanks

I think as long as you can open the boot it will pass.

i thought you had to be able to open it from outside. ie your car is classed as 3 door, so you have to have access to all three doors.

As far as i knew it didnt matter about your boot. And theres loads of cars about with a welded up boot. Like Jagcorsas. That dosent open does it??

must be accessible from outside also for emergency services. if car was made with a facility to access a vehicle from the outside it must be in full working order.

so techincally, even with the solenoid wired up it will be a MOT fail because there is still no way to open the boot from the outside?

in that case most people would fail, because even if people have a fob which 'popped' the tailgate. the emergency services couldn't get to it from the outside cause the fob would be with the keys and the keys would be in the ignition

The boot might not be accessible if it is locked (ie the car doesnt have CL), even if the lock is still there

no thats wrong mate. the boot only has to open only for the purpose of checking for corrosion so as long as it can be opened by any means its ok or if it wont open at all then looking at the boot floor through the rear seats is ok.
