I want to know what people's views are on high/low mileage, whether its when buying a new vehicle or trying not to use your own car that much to keep the mileage down.

My car just came onto 90k and its S reg so is on above average miles for age but whenever i see a car that has 100k plus for sale I'm really put off. I know old worn out parts can be replaced (seats, tyres, suspension) but things like a tired engine and rusty shell cant be replaced that much.

Just trying to get a discussion going here. Feel free to give the mileage of your car and whether its average for the year or not.

Bothers me slightly, depending on the car.

I do hardly any miles though, so a high mileage car would become average mileage after I'd had it for a few years

Service history means more than mileage to me.

The way i see it is I'd rather use a low mileage car as a daily driver than using a high mileage car as fewer things are likely to break.

Mine is an S reg, and just passed 122k.

Doesn't bother me to be honest, as for one, the engine was change for a recon item by Vauxhall 42k ago.

The car covered around 25k a year before I got it, but almost all motorway mileage, so relatively low revs.

The engine was also therefore unstressed really, always just cruising along.

I've got a car on 85k and one with 180 miles... the one on 85k i'm confident will keep going strong because it's been well looked after

good point, high miler with good history can be in just as good condition as a low miler mith none.

although as said shell may be a bit tired after 10ok odd miles if not looked after,

however my nova only has 17k on it so im not generally worried

Got the civ in October with 72k miles on it. Have managed to rack up another 5k on top of that. Was bothered to start with but I've come to the conclusion that it's there to be used. Thats my 2p worth

depends on the car and what type of driving has clocked up the milage.

100k car that has been used for pizza deliverys = no thanks
same car with 100k mostly motorway miles = much better option

just been looking for a car and 100k+ does kinda put me off as i know if i look around enough ill find a lower mileage example

but u can have a car with 60k which is on its last legs or have a car which has 120k and run like new because its been well looked after

depends how old the car is really. Mine is an m reg with 39k on the clock. Before i had it the oil and coolant only got changed once or twice, bearing in mind that's within a space of 11years - not good.

Depends what it is & how it presents itself tbh.......over 100k wouldnt put me off if I thought the car was good for it.

My golfs got 145k on it, granted the heads needing done on it but the shell & everything else is mint....better than one I seen whith less than half as many miles.

I bought my Sport in Febuary 2006 with 97k, it now has 112k, so ive done 15k in just under a year, and its my first car, i did 1k in the first week

History is one of the main things, currently looking at a new car with 75k.

Like others have said, as long as it has a good, comprehensive service history, preferably at a main dealer, it doesn't matter too much.

Granny cars with low miles can be just as bad as high mileage ones.

The taxi that took me and the missus from train station to hotel on holiday, had done over 300,000 miles. It was a MK2 Mondeo estate diesel.

Oh, my 12v is W-reg and done just over 64k miles and going strong, touch wood.

i do worry about it altho my xe project is year 2000 and has 42k on it (ive had it form new)

old daily corsa 1.2 8v (now in garage) has 120k on it

peugeot 306 d turbo workhorse has 167k on it. but i got it for gd money with a full years test and tax for 3 months and my mate had serviced it for the last 4 years and it had 300 spent on it for last mot etc

dont think its necessarily the engine u have to look out for on high mileage cars esp diesels its more the ancilleries/suspension electrics etc thar giev the hassle in my experience

Its one of those things that it all depends on the situation. For example before getting my current corsa, I was actually looking getting a vetra, I remember seeing one in an ad, looked fairly clean but didnt state the mileage, I rang up and it was a trade dealer, asked him the mileage and he said 110K, I asked him if it had any service history and he said yeah I think so, so I said could you tell me when the cambelt was last changed and he said I dont know I'm not a mechanic! I then said could you find out for me, and he repeated himself saying like I said mate im not a mechanic. I said you sell cars and you cant tell me the first thing about one, why would anyone hand over their money to you if you cant answer a simple question? Like I said mate I'm not a mechanic. FUCK OFF!
See if the car had the same mileage but i had proof it had been well looked after and serviced regularly, I probably would have bought it. But seeing as the thick salesman couldnt even tell me anything about the car, i thought forget it!
