Any one know if there any good?
Any common problems with them?
Any excessive service/maintenance work on them?
How good's the Quattro system on them? Reliable?
Can get a good one with under 80k and FSH on it for less than £10k, and i can't see them dropping in price any time soon .

I have one, I think its a brilliant car. Jr will come and list all the common faults, but just look out for things you look for on a normal car.
Make sure the cambelt has been done and the waterpump done too, Haldex (quattro 4wd) oil and filter is meant to be done every 20k miles.
Mine has only done 35,000 miles, the clutch needs replacing and i've had a headlamp ballast go (£125 for a new one to fix) other than that no other problems in a few months of owning it.

How much is the clutch to replace? I know i've heard some horror stories with some 4WD cars like GT4's and Pulsars with a nice £1k+ Clutch change

Not sure I work in a garage, the clutch itself was £100 trade price and it does'nt look any more difficult than a normal car. Early ones were 210 bhp and later ones 225 bhp, mine is the 225. Also there is a facelift version, you can tell this by if it has one piece headlamps or separate indicators on the front.

think there around high 7's to 60, which is slower than a Leon Cupra R (chap at work looked into it). It's not intended as an all out hot hatch though, more a luxury saloon with some poke

210 cars are Y reg or ealrier
225 came out on 51 plate with the VVt
210 have slighter stronegr conrods and remap to the same figures on both engines
210 has slighly less lag than 225 model also
Haldex oil every service - if this is done haldex filter is not required to be changed
mates mechanic - oil, oil filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, plugs, haldex oil, cambelt and tensioner kit cost 220 for parts
Audii wanted close to 800 for teh service including parts
Coil packs are issues on early cars as are ARB

as joe has said early pre facelift are 210 and later ones are 225 BAM engines
issues
Coil Packs
Haldex control units fail
Pollen filtres can leak, soaking inside
Mirrors get stolen, and are £300+ a side to replace
Waterpump has plastic impella that fails
arb cracks on both front and rear

That's not too bad then, as long as the clutch itself isnt rediculously expensive, I could get the old man to drop it in (can only be as bad as his vectra, where he had to drop the front subframe, remove the N/S suspension, and still struggle, with the car 2 foot in the air ).

so if remapped your looking at 265bhp and a 0-60 of what??? 5.5??? I know my ibiza book time was 7.4 or something, once remapped it was 6 flat. would of thought the quattro gives unbeatable traction but they are a bit lardy!!!! What do they handle like??

good but need to get used to how it drives $WD
Lift off in the corner and you go sideways had a scary experience racing my mates S3
About 5.5 if remapped but the killer is it will not do 60 in second unless you raise the rev limit but power tails off at 6.5k rpm
The cars are 2wd until the car detects loss of traction - thats how the haldex works as its a viscous coupling

depending who you go with
AMD normally 260 with 300lb/ft or torque about the limit on standard conrods for the torque
others are about 275 to 280 but with less torque

Is 265 just a stage 1 tune? Just a simple Remap?

My LCR has suffered both of these
I looked as S3's before getting the LCR but all the ones within my price range were too higher mileage for my liking. Wouldn't the price drop slightly now the new S3 is out?

Parkers quote 6.6 for the 210 and 6.4 for the 225.

yes
Stage 2 with CAI, exhaust and sports cats will see you around 290 depending on the tuner
Past this bigger turbo is required

Any more info on service intervals?
20k seems a bit long so would probably do it more... I do my corsa about every 5k .
How often does the Haldex/cam belt need doing?

Cambelth now changed from 5 to 4 years as some failures have been experienced
20K is AVS so may be shorter. Mines fixed on 9200 mile services as Audi do not reset the service indicator my mate does

my ibiza was gutless over 6k. which i thought was boring, but for my next car i'd like something more luxury probably!!! S3's will be affordable by then. So they are FWD but then the rears will be powered when the fronts lose traction???
So many companies claim different figures for remaps on 1.8t's!!! Stage 2 i thought you needed a FMIC too??
