Well, ever since I started posting on here, I've really liked the sound of the modding scene, because I've found out that there is a modding scene out there apart from wide boy body kits and Max Power which I hate.

Anyway, you'll probably know that I have a standard 12v GLS. But I am itching to start modding it however can't for many reasons. I don't want to do anything that will raise my insurance or attract attention, because modded cars around these parts tend to get 'picked on'. I also don't have money to spend because I'm a student.

Here were my ideas just to make my car 'my own' and that bit more individual. If I gradually did them, would I just seem like some sad person trying to make his 12v better, even though it can't get better or would the mods be worth it? I'm not conscious of what I look like, but I'd like to start going to meets but don't want to turn up completely standard.

Anyway, enough ranting, here are my ideas:
Smoked side repeaters
Darker headlights
Debadge the 12v.
(Don't laugh at the next one)
Spray my wheel trims an anthracite grey colour (they are the original Vauxhall trims) - if I had the choice, I'd have grey/black alloys, so along with side repeaters and headlights, thought they'd look quite good.

Any advice would be great

Funnily, as your question title and the title of the forum in which you think this post should be in match, you should.

I was thinking a GSi spoiler BUT I have the dreaded Flame Red paint job so getting a colour match will be hard work.

Would mods such as side repeaters, smoked headlights and badgeless grill need to be declared on the insurance? I'm not worried about getting the same replacement if I crashed, but don't want my insurance to be void.

hmmm, I just didn't think items like different coloured side repeaters made a difference?!

I could just claim I bought the car like it and didn't know what it was like new.

Anyone else?

Insurance companies arent going to care about side repeaters. And if you run up the arse of another car then who's going to know what headlights you had if theyre in bits on the road.

I wouldnt paint the wheels trims though, For the money you would be out buying sand paper, primer, paint and laquer yould would almost be able to afford a set of corsa gsi/sri/sxi alloys. You can get a set of the standard corsa b alloys for less than £30

Just phoned up 'on behalf of my girlfriend who already has mods on her car and was enquiring about insurance with you. Different side repeaters, fully road legal and e-marked front lights and different grill'.

First thing he asked after putting me on hold "is a front grill a spoiler?"

Anyway, it wouldn't affect the price, if it wasn't declared the car would only be repaired to vehicle specification. If it was declared, it would be repaired to the modifications. Also, it wouldn't void the insurance.

Looks like I better get my debit card out

Your insurance could be void then, especially with alloys.

If I get alloys, I'll be getting Vauxhall ones - so that if I declare them, I won't be accused of being a boy racer AND it won't be appealing.
