..i was thinking of changing my front brakes on my 1.2 16v sxi to some others.

Had the impression that people sometimes use 1.4 brakes, am i right in thinking this?

If so, how hard are they to find and fit? or is it just as easy to find some and them nip it to the garage to get them to swap them over.
If not, what other alternatives are there, bearing in mind i have standard sxi alloys
Im aware that my insurace will alter, but im hoping this wouldnt be too much.

Thanks for any help

Marc

If you want to upgrade your brakes, put atleast 1.6 one's on there, if not 2.0 one's

@ monster and andy - 2.0 brakes on a 1.2 16v? (prob cant answer this) but would this cost more on my insurance? or do companies see brakes as brakes regardless of whether they stop you slightly better or the car stops dead?

thanks for replies everyone else

I dont reckon they would be able to tell the differance to be honest as they look near enough the same, Think I still have my 1.6 calipers somewhere...

I have 2.0 ones on there behind my 15's at the mo with a very dodgy paint job They also fit behind 14" steelie (just) as i found out a few weeks ago.

256mm brakes fit on the SXi wheels (5 spokes)

Some insurances companies may put it up as they see this as you driving faster, other will put it down as you have better brakes.

okie dokie thanks fro and marc

i think mine will more than likely go up although i am trying to getsome money back for my insurance since they ripped me off charging me too much and making me change companies because i have moved away from home to go to uni

they never asked if i was taking the car, they just presumed since i was at an alternative address for uni that i had, cost me about £150 extra, so if i get that back im plannign on doing my brakes or lowering...........or both

Your brakes will be the same as 1.4 brakes, the 2.0 brakes are a well worthy upgrade.

I'm not sure i'd even bother telling them, the discs are near enough the same size just a tad wider. Would they really need to know.

Haimsey, Yeh the brakes will fit - they look HUGE though Literally can't fit your little finger in the gap

I've had 2.0 brakes on my 1.2 for ages now
