Im basically trying to find the exhaust emission regulations that changed around 1993, so that cars before that age dont have to have a cat converter. Ive been looking on the VOSA website, but cant find anything. I would like something in writing/ link to a website rather than going on someones word

Thank you please

Theres something on the official MOT government website thing, I printed it off and showed the garage when they wouldnt test my car with no cat and then they did. Someone posted it up on here ages ago, I;m having a quick hunt for it now. It basically proves that the MOT emissions test goes on age of engine or age of chassis, whichever is older.

Cheers for that mate. Also where is your engine number stamped on an xe/let block and can you find out the age of the engine just from that number?

the emissions test goes by the age of the engine and its up to the presenter ie you to prove that the engine is of the age. doesnt matter what car its in.

I rang vauxhall today and they said that they coldnt give me info unless the car had been serviced there. They said that i would have to try the DVLA . would there be a head technical vauxhall department that may have a database with all this info on?

there is usually a sign up in the mot station which gives you year or manufacturer and gas limits etc.

It definately goes by the age of the engine not the car, as it says on that link. My T reg corsa passed the MOT with no cat, and my L reg did with the same engine in it, twice.

Ok so let me get this right:
It goes on the age of the engine not the car...
But there must have been a time when new legistation was bought in when cats had to be installed...when was this?
