ALso saw it on SSN this morning. Id be quite pleased with this signing, a young ENGLISH, goalkeeper who I have been impressed with the few times I have seen him.
Cosmo, opinions? Will Liverpool let him go?

It wouldnt suprise me, and I do expect him to leave if Reina isnt used as part of a deal for Villa in the summer. Although doubt we'll get rid of him this summer.
Would demand a huge price though, English and only signed a new 5yr deal in the summer.

won't he be the 3rd keeper at arsenal tho (and 2nd if jens goes at the end of the season) surely he'd be better off staying at anfield behind reina

he would be pushing Jens for his place easily at Arsenal (he'd push Reina at Anfield), and if Jens goes which he probably would do if Carson came Id expect him to be no1.

Jens is stalling over a new 1 year contract and is 37 now. I think he is a quality keeper (Jens) But we need to bring someone in thats younger. Almunia is 29 IIRC so we def need to start looking for a more longterm option. Especially with our younger defenders. If we could get them all playing together we could potentially end up with a quality backline again.
And well have 3 English players in the first team

I am glad we got him to sign that deal extension will be talking proper money if he does, which I expect he will. I don't think reina will go or villa will come...

He wouldnt be allowed to go for less than £15m IMO.
I know that is a stupid price but when he is English and on a longterm contract thats the sort of price it would have to take.

we will sign one huge name this summer, just to get the fans on board with the yanks. Other than Villa Im not sure who else we'd want/get. Torres?

I don;t think he'd command a price that big (arsenal would never pay that, maybe chelsea would if they needed him) I reckon £8m

we paid something like £5m for him when he wasnt that well known/proven, and certainly not this good.

it is loads, but if we dont need to sell him (4yrs on contract) and is wanted by a rival then we'll just charge a fortune or keep hold.

Im not saying he is worth that much, he isnt.
But for us to sell to one of our closest rivals, he is an english player (always stupid prices) and is on a really longterm contract it would have to be huge.

The day Liverpools 3rd choice uncapped 21 yr old keeper goes for £15 million is the day the English game is in financial ruin, Chelsea wouldn't even entertain it.

agreed, but the day Chelsea paid 25m just for them to sit on the bench was the day the english game was in financial ruin.

Should be pushing for the 2008 world cup aswell i should think.
And i agree with cosmo, i think it is going to need a big price to get him away from Anfield.
But at the minute there's Reina, Dudek and the young Italian on loan.
I expect Dudek to go in the summer and i suppose all depend on Reina then and if Carson is willing to wait a little longer for his chance with Liverpool and i think the Italian has come in for back-up for Reina rather than Dudek now.

Yeah, Dudek is out of contract in the summer, talk of offering him another year though for some reason.
If Dudek gets another year, I can only see either Reina or Carson leaving.

Dudek off form is an awful keeper, example the 2 arsenal games 
Why offer him another contract when you have a first choice keeper (Reina) and 2 of the best prospect goalkeepers about (Carson and the Italian)

carson only played a handful of games for us last season and was our best player/who keept us up.
top class.
