Does the PS3 have a gamerscore/achievement set up like the sex box 360?

No 'Achievements' System for PS3 Games
But some games will sort of have it. Kind of.
By Patrick Klepek, 10/20/2006
Earlier this year, rumors said Sony would copy Xbox 360's achievements system for PlayStation 3 with something called "Entitlements" but the concept never materialized. Even now, as Sony releases the last details on the hardware launch, we've heard nothing.
Chris Kohler at Game|Life played it straight with Sony, confirming they're only sort of interested in an achievements system.
"We didn't mention that, but it is our intention that we would have it -- although I think it would be game-centric. It's very difficult to draw analogies [between] your success on SOCOM and your success on Madden. Madden players care about peoples' success on Madden," said Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment America exec VP. "So the publisher will have the flexibility to have a robust ranking system, on a game-by-game basis."
Essentially, we shouldn't be surprised to see cross-platform games with achievements have something in the PS3 versions, but there will not be a cumulative "gamerscore" totaling points across all games. Tretton did add, however, that Sony plans on incorporating this achievements-like system into their first-party releases, though none of the launch games feature it.
i had a quick look through sony's site and the online ps3 manual and theres nothin on there about it !!!

the whole way the online system is handled by the PS3 is a joke tbh...
no central buddy system (games have there own 'friends' list, so what is your gamertag for one game may be completely different for another if someone else has it)
no standardised online system (each game has its own method)
there is a buddy system on the ps3 as default, but games can and do choose to ignore it in favour of there own.

TBH xbox live makes the xbox as good as it is. I overlook the occasional freeze etc beacuse the product itself is pretty good! I dont think the xbox would be anywhere near as popular as it is now without live being as good as it is...

i agree doug, with the original xbox halo and being able to play it on line was what kept it going really, the amount of people who bought the 360 because of xbox live will be a fair few

Its true, they Gamer points system seems unimportant to sony who are leaving it to game developers. TBH i think this is now the biggest feature of consoles

I dont know why but the Achievement system on the Xbox gives you more of a sense of.....................achievement as you progress through a game.
Gives you something to aim for and also gets you playing the games more.

Sounds like PS3 online will be bollox like the PS2 was, having to signup accounts to play online for every game publisher - such a hassle compared to the 360.
