Will normal star silver paint be ok to paint my rocker cover with on the let? Just thinking about the heat issue? Also what grit paper do i need to sand it down?, i already have grey primer, top coat & laquer. I'm pretty new to the paint thing as you can probably tell so any help would be good, thanks.

Yeah i know i thought this 5 mins after buying the paint  the paint on it now though looks like ordinary spray paint.

i'll be honest i'm no paint specialist and this is a guess but can you get some sort of heat reflective clear laquer?

just serached through some old threads and everyone is saying its fine to spray it with normal paint, so the weekend project here we come..pics of car to follow next week as its changed a bit since i picked it up off you

I sprayed my engine covrs on my x14xe and the spark plug cover on my c20xe, yes they get warm but i mixed the paint with express hardener so they dried quicker and also left them for a few days until the paint had fully hardened.
Normal paint should be fine.
there is such thing as engine laquer and heat proof paints, iwould only normally use these if i were paiting calipers or engine blocks

Normal paint will be fine, but it will probably go brown, after all, the standard rocker covers go brown too with all the heat and oil they get covered in.
All you need to do to find out how to prep the cover is look in the FAQ section where somone has kindly written a tutorial on painting stuff

Had a look at the guide, its spot on printed a copy off. I take it halfords sell this wet & dry stuff?

Thats where i got it when i was doing it. Car part places usually do it. Dont drop it when the paint is fresh, or it will flake off like it has in the bottom right corner
Star silver will look ace, should change the plug colour to gloss black with star silver letters aswell. Thats what i always wanted to do

Well i have built a false floor for her, got some nice depos on the way and taken the shitty orange repeaters off, but still got the sleeper look Running billiantly after i got it set up on the rolling road, getting new pics when i have tarted the engine up a bit...should be next week.

yeah will be fine, just rub the area down with some P320, them prime it all, wet flat with P800 or dry with P500 and then slap the paint on!

Good stuff. Halfords sell a lot of stuff, but quite a lot of Motorfactors sell bodyshop stuff too. Have a look and see if you have local Brown Brothers as they are good.

To key up the existing paint?
You need either some red Scotch or just some 320. Then to flat the primer you need some 800 and a rubber block.

Yep, you just need to key up the surface and clean off any flakes in the paint. This can be done with 320 or 400 depending on what you are painting. The primer then just needs flatting out after it has been laid down to get everything super smooth before paint.
