Thousands of custmers who had preordered a PS3 have ask for a refund in favour of ordering a console from Japan etc All down to the backwards compatible issues.
Sony has announced it will not give warranties to customers in the EU who buy imported consoles
Another big cock up for sony

I think its BS to be honest who cares if they aint backwards compatable, a PS2 is like £40 on eGay and most people have one anyway. 99% of people are buying a PS3 to play PS3 games shock horror!

it's like buying an XBOX 360 and then buying XBOX games instead of the new 360 games

You say that but it was reason enough for all these people to cancel their orders. Must be a big deal to them.

I was new to Xbox when I defected to the 360 and really fancied Halo 3 but hadn't played the previous two so backwards compatibility has let me catch up

i think if Nintendo went back to the SNES/N64 days and made a new console they could push sony out of the next gen
I always think that since the 64 Nintendo has failed to push the market like it used to.

lol - On all the news but missing from BBC News Technology section & Sky News
Its absolutly pointless saying people won't be able to play X/Y/Z on the new machine because no-one knows. I bet that all the mainstream titles like GT3 etc will work it will be the much smaller ones they will not worry about which will affect a much much smaller part of the market.
Those buying PS3s who already have a PS2 I would say a high % will just keep thier PS2 anyway so its not a huge problem. Not worth selling them due to the cost of a new one.
No-on knows which console is the best yet as its way to early. Give it a year maybe 2 of all being out then start to decide.

try BBC news, BBC Radio News. Point is people are cancelling orders and importing them cheaper, not knowing that warrasnties will not exist for imports. whats the point of keeping a PS2 when the jap spec ones can play PS2 games

Exactly. Buying a Jap Spec PS3 means you can sell your PS2 and probably buy another PS3 game or something.

You'll be lucky to get £30 for a 2nd hand PS2 now. You can pick up a new one for £40 now if you keep a look out.
Its funny you say its a cockup for Sony - they have still got the sales and they won't have to honour the warranty.
Its nothing new - happens in car audio quote often where people import JL etc

yes but you cant play british Blu ray films on imported consoles. Sony also make more money of Uk consoles so allowing imports means losing revenue

people have also been scared off as it was leaked/announced etc that the europe version would have parts taken out of it to reduce production cost when compared to the us and asian market versions
