Hi guys, as title really.. got a 1.6 Sport T reg so x16xe lump.. lovely engine runs sweet as a nut doesnt make a sound @ tickover (bar me noisy exhaust haha) so wanna keep it up to scratch as it's got FSH and has been done meticulously.
Also obviously I want as much performance I can get for nowt too... well, within reason! So, few Q's:
What oil should I use when I do an oilchange? Dont mind paying up to say 30 quid for 5 litres
What HT leads are recommended?
What good spark plugs are recommended also to go with 'em?
Finally, halfords oil filter good enough? Or shall I get a genuine vauxhall one?

standard ht leads,
10w/40 semi synthetic oil.. (not magnatek sp)
NGK - bkr6ek plugs
any oil filter [ coopers z520, vaux VOF93]

I recommend vauxhalls semi synth 10w 40 oil. Ecotecs in particular react very well to this oil. no point wot so ever in buying more expensive oil. would be better to do 3000k changes on vaux oil.
for the rest of the stuff, get friendly with someone who can get u trade club discount from vaux. can pick up oil filter + sump plug washer+ pollen filter+ air filter + four spark park all for a tenner. Genuine oil filter about £1.11, with discount so no need for halfords. 5ltrs of the semi synth oil is about £10-15 iirc.

cool cheers mate, when you say standard HT leads do you mean vauxhall ones? or just basically any boggo ones lol

i dont like vaux oil at all.......it seems to carbon up very quick........
...if you do use it make sure you change it every 3k, as said above.
vaux leads, seem to be the best leads.......cheepy ones dont have the 'quality'

the motor factors near my house sells the genuine GM 10 40w oil. 5 litres for £9.99.
I use it in the Saxo

sounds nice and cheap though canna fault it.. was hoping stick to 6000 mile services so.. wanna make sure it's good oil.
Is castrol stuff any good?

had some prices on some genuine vauxhall stuff via a mate who gets trade discount so decided just get everything from vauxhall apart from the leads (38 quid a LEAD! lol)
so gonna take robins advice and not bother with them
is there a way i can check if the leads are good? or if they need renewing? ta.

check condition of leads while engine is running in the dark, pull them out while its runing and check that its sparking ok?

it does run well to be honest.. i'll have a nosey through the service manual in a min see if I can work out whats (well, what should have been) done
it was owned from new till last year by a vauxhall mechanic.... not sure if thats a good or bad thing haha

i would only ever use GM oil filters, same goes with leads. I wouldnt bother with leads unless you have a problem caused by them, they are not a normal service part.
Plugs are down to choice but get good quality ones, again i would go with GM.
Oil as long as its good quality doesnt matter a great deal, just make sure it the correct grade.
Change Air filter, Cabin filter if you can be bothered, and fuel filter (although quite expensive for what it is) is worth changing too although it a bit of a bitch to change

only a fiver for fuel filter trade so thats good hehe.
this is my list, most will come from vauxhall @ trade price:
oil
oil filter (and sump washer?)
coolant change
brake fluid change/top up
fuel filter
pollen filter
spark plugs
gearbox oil
should run sweet as then, even though luckily it does now

It's almost that time again. Car was serviced on around 81,500. It's on 89k nearly so gonna do it at 90k.
Changed loads of stuff at the last service (along with coolant and power steering fluid at about 86k):
New uprated discs and pads
Semi synth gearbox oil
Oil and oil filter
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
PAS fluid
Coolant
SO for this service I'm thinking of doing:
Pollen filter
Oil and oil filter (and sump washer)
Clean my K&N panel!
Check and top up gearbox oil if required
Spark plugs
Check cambelt condition (was done @ 75k with tensioners etc apparently)
Do you think I should change the fuel filter? Get new leads (wouldnt be GM though as EXPENSIVEEEE!!!!) or anything else I should do due to the cars age?
I used GM parts last time so will do again.

PS: wheres best to buy it all from? Autovaux? As I'm no longer in touch with my mate who got me a trade discount on GM stuff before.

9195109 GM plugs are just NGK twin electrode ones 
Don't use GM leads unless you want to pay £100 odd
GM oil filter
Millers oil
I only use millers tranny and engine oils now
