anyone know the law regarding loud pipes and the law? do they have any way of testing them? someone told me that its up to each officer to decide if its too loud or not but surely that cant be true? and what about TVR's and scoobys? there all pretty loud from the factory.

u have upto 82db to play with. cops need proof of just how loud it is

they have to be tested on a tripod at 5ft iirc or so away from the car

silly law as well like they have to be audible 3 miles away from where been tested before illegal because it smeasuring noise at is travelling

There is a max noise level for 99% of cars. This is tested as part of the manufacturing process on a set distance across the rev range.

Cars like TVRs which can complete the distance in a shortened time are allowed a few extra dB, think it's upto 96dB IIRC.

In other words, if you have a powerful, fast car, it's allowed to be noisy.
