is it possible that the crank sensor could be touching the crank?

i have a rattling noise coming from that area and it is annoying me

Not really. If it's touching it's because the bottom pulley has come loose. But if it has you'll hear it. It's fooking loud.

If the bottom pulls slightly bent out of shape, its possible the pully is not spinning true and just catching the edge of the crank sensor.

you can hear it pretty loud when you get to about 3.5k

DO NOT try bending the sensor away, i thought this in my 1.2 8v and ended snapping it, i promply bodges a bracket to hold it in place then a mate decided he wanted the car so he got it for a bargain 500 (i only paid 330 ). also my crank sensor is snapped on my new engine is there a good way to repair rather than bodge?

Is it like a slapping sound? Metal on Metal shinging sound?

If so, your bottom pulley has probably come loose. Mine did it a couple of weeks ago, makes a hell of a racket at about 3K.
