My mates has been away getting the engine modified to 300hp. He got it back last night after months. These cars are immense - his is completly standard apart from an extremely expensive sound system and the engine. Brilliant looking car and has to be the best vauxhall ever made

Its the 4x4 system mainly the transfer box thats auful!! That along with the fact that the little Bro the 2L SRi was the taxi drivers weapon of choice when I was growing up is the fact I wouldnt have one

Actually, the transfer box is fine if its looked after properly.

Most arn't, hence why most fail.

It just can't handle load more power like other 4x4 boxes, but then the engine has 204bhp, so was never meant to handle more. When your chucking 280-320bhp through it, its gonna start to have issues (eventually).

They just seem too fragile to consider owning, Ive never heard of the issues in another mainstreme 4x4 car to break so often. A guy my mate works with eventually had his calibra fitted with a locked box he had so many issues with it. He did look after it, same with all his cars he's owned but it was a money pit. Having to rotate the tyres whenver they get outwidth 1mm tread front to back would be enough to piss me off

No, it jsut needs servicing, just like an engine.

Serviced transfer boxes generally don't fail, but 90% of people won't have kept the servicing on them.

Its an overally poor system compared to other 4x4's, but then again, for a standard car, which is was designed in, its absolutly fine.

Vauxhall never intend people to tune cars, they build them to be standard.

Pretty sure you're supposed to do that on all 4wd cars - just most aren't affected too much by it.

what kind of a comparison is a road legal car to a fully developed touring car with a motorsport shell, roll cage, adjustable damping, adjustable camber, adjustable castor, slicks and wide and large diameter wheels?

they are a completely different ball game- also as you well said the cavaliers did well in the front wheel drive touring car championship and not a 4x4 championship, which the cav turbo's are

The 4x4 system isn't exactly a best, but it's a bit hyped up now. People seem to think that they all blow up after 70k or something.

I find that hard to believe. As a rule of thuumb most things are designed to out perform. It's very rare that something is designed and then let loose on the public running at it's peak performance.

regardless of which suspension kit is available to the public is different to motorsport developed stuff.

simple fact of the matter is that a road car will extremely rarely be anywhere near as good a factory motorsport developed car.
