There is quite a bit of info here so I will try and summarise it a bit.
I have a 99 corsa sport with the x16xe
In the past week or so i have noticed a serious lack of power at low rpm to the point where I have been having to get the revs up to 3.5k before i lift the clutch just to keep up with traffic.
At high rpm it isnt so bad, i did a 0-60mph count of 12secs without taking the revs over 5k or below 3k rpm (I don't like to thrash my car after already blowing up one engine).
It started where i hardly noticed it losing power, then got worse and worse over the week (about 200miles)
If you put your foot to the floor at low rpm or lifted the clutch too quick letting it drop below 3k rpm it feels like the engine is getting flooded/bogged down.
It started "fighting" the revs when cold, ie dropping to 500rpm then going back to 900rpm repeatedly.
The engine is running hotter than normal (about 99'C, normally it is around 93'C)
It is now undriveable, it idles at 100rpm (god knows how it keeps going like that), if you put your foot down it will stall, but if you are gentle you can build the rev's up very slowly, would prob take 10secs or so to get to the 3k mark.
Can anyone help me with this?

i dont know mate im not the best on these engines but it sounds like either your idle control valve needs cleaning or replacing or me mate had simliar problems when his airflow sensor went the getting hot i would say is where you are revving it to keep it going

Sounds the same as mine. It was the headgasket

if it was the head gasket wouldn't this cause a problem at high rpm too? I have not had any mayonnaise or oil/water loss either though. Oh and I forgot to mention the engine management light hasn't come on either.

It wont with headgasket failure mate.
Mine didn't loose any water/oil when mine went. It all depends where abouts on the headgasket it fails..

Ah ok then, that could make sense, the dodgy mechanic that changed my engine when i blew the last one up said it looked like the new engine had been standing a while, i have done about 10k since the engine change. Is the head gasket difficult to do? One thing I forgot to mention is the harsh tapping sounds coming from the engne bay when the revs drop, to give you an idea of what it sounds like when i first heard it I thought it was an old moped ticking over, it is the exact same noise. Could this rule out the head gasket?
If by misfire you mean big bangs, no it doesn't. Although you do get the odd quite popping from the exhaust, but you only hear that if you stick your head by the exhaust and listen for it, i am sure that is normal, my friends car does the same.

or change the headgasket and tappets at the same time
headgaskets aren't the easyiest thing to change, a garage would be over £500 easy
you want some tappets, i have a set for £15

oh right, I may have to sell the car then, there is no way I can afford that at the minute, and I need the car for work *cries*
I'll get it in a garage and see what they say, if your right it'll be up for sale here soon enough.

Well it is now costing me £20/day to get to work and back :-S I am considering getting a £100 banger for the time being, could be a laugh and would be fun to abuse it when i get stressed lol, might even do a custom paint job on it jus to take the piss lol, although a dremel is cheaper than spraypaint:-D

It has just occured to me, for a while the alternator has been making some nasty noises, this could also be the tapping, is it possible the alternator is knackered causing drag on the engine?

Has my XE been giving me grief... other than the first one having a con rod snap through the side of the block, then had it changed, then had a gasket leak causing it to idle at the red line, and now it aint starting, all in less than a year...
but other than that it is great!

Ouch.
Welcome to my world lol.
It would appear that as soon as you take an XE from its original home it automatically triggers a "tin of whoopass" on you.
I had a Cav GSI, no probs whatsoever....this Corsa has seen circa three engines now!
Good job I'm in with the MIG lot or i'd be on the streets by now lol...

Well I am now waiting for the RAC to come tow me to my garage (unless they fix it there and then, but i doubt it). Cheers for all your help and I'll let you know how it goes.
