if it's cable (have a seperate modem, either silver/black/blue, doesn't use telephone socket) then you just need a router, if you have ADSL (connects to telephone socket) then you need a router with an adsl modem
p.s - as for routers there all much the same to be honest. Most of them have there own gimick "range max" bollocks, that work-kinda-ish (yet to notice any different on my netgear super dooper range max router). Belkin, Linksys and Netgear and the ones to look at though

yeah with virgin you just need a wireless router, do not need a modem aswell.
providing it runs through cable not your phone line.
easiest thing to do is go to asda and get the one they sell its about £40, job done.

You need a DSL router. I'm with Virginmedia myself and set up a wireless router not so long back. ASDL routers wont work with Virginmedia, i went with a linksys wireless router with speedbooster, seems to do the job pretty well. Piss easy to set up too not had a probelm yet.

This is what you need..
Pre N is set to be the new standard in wifi speeds and ranges..
We have one set up in our loft with the main pc and my friend who lives a street behind us and 5 houses to the right can find our network. The range is superb and its so easy to set up aswell.. does it all for you. If i was goin to buy another router for whatever reason i wouldnt touch anything else.
