Just passed a marked police car (volvo estate i think) and noticed there was a black camera pointing out of the back window,

What kind of camera is this?

it was just quite a big black camera facing the oncoming traffic, could you get a speeding ticket from one of these or would they have to pull you over?

That will be a ANPR camera mate, checking for insurance, tax, MOT, Owner details, if stolen

It is linked up to an on board computer which is updated daily with the latest information from DVLA and police intelligence systems.

i think i set a world record. got pulled 4 different times, in 16 hours. so sat in the back of 4 police cars in 16hours

and i wasn't doing anything wrong haha had my mate in the car all four times, was in differnet parts of the country and not driving like a dick haha

No one cares Steve, get over it.

How many times do you want to ask about these bloody cameras.

The camera on the roof is ANPR, which stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition.

This system looks up your tax, MOT and insurance details as well as having records of outstanding criminal issues related to the plate.

The cars also have regular video evidence cams as well although they are normally forward facing.

Thread about cameras, nothing to do with being in a car. Its like its important that you were in a police car. It isn't. It doesn't impact upon our daily lives. We might choose to take an interest in your thread the other day, but we don't care now, in a thread about cameras, that you were in a car.
